A Personal Note From Josie

Shabbat Shalom everyone.  I felt to express my personal version of what it is like for me here in this time of war.  The sirens, the thuds of rockets landing close by, the constant thuds and impact (which makes the doors in our apartment rattle) of rockets landing in the very northern tip of Israel and in southern Lebanon is taxing and scary.

However, I can handle that  - what is most consuming for me is being a mother of a son who is literally in the heart of the battle up there at Avavim on the Lebanse border.  I have not had to endure or experience anything like this, or walk this path before, so it is a new level of trust in the Lord that I have ever been thrust into.  It is an hour by hour walk for me. Each time we hear from Stefan, ( praise the Lord for cell phones ) it brings me tremendous relief to know that he is still alive.  Each time I hear that a soldier has been wounded or killed, I weep like it is my own son.  I have lost my appetite.

Last night I did not sleep, I was up until the very early hours of the morning.  At one stage I lay prostrate on the floor of our office for a long time weeping and praying. As I lay there, I became aware of my cat beside me, he began sniffing my arms, hair and face… so gently, feeling his gentle breath on my bare skin, and purring and crying at the same time - he sat beside me like a faithful little puppy -  it really comforted me. I believe the Lord allowed that, and as I looked back in reflection this morning, I sensed the Holy Spirit saying “that is how close I am to you”.

Thank you all for your prayers, encouragement, love, comfort, little devotions, songs etc etc you have sent - it has meant measures to me, and thank you for continuing to “walk this path” with us until we see it come to an end…………..Shabbat Shalom in the name of Yeshua our Messiah, David & Josie

For the FIRST time since the start of Israel‘s battle for the God given right, the rest and above all the peace, gets this war a very personal face, the face of Michael Schneider. For the first time you can look directly into the face of an Israeli soldier and also his family. A family with wife and three children, who wait now at home for the safe and unharmed return of the father from this enforced war.

Our wishes, hopes and prayers for a soon coming peace and the safe return are in these days not only with Michael Schneider, but also with the many other thousands nameless male and female soldiers and especially for the 3 young kidnapped soldiers, which desperately wait for there release.

Likewise should be our thoughts and prayers with the suffering civil population on both sides.

“Mattot - tribes” Numbers 30:2 till 32:42

30th week
SHABBAT READINGS & COMMENTARY:
“Mattot - tribes” Numbers 30:2 till 32:42
“Massei - wanderings” Numbers 33:1 till 36:13
By: see note
Translation by Rolf Piller

Note: Michael Schneider, who writes the weekly comment to the Parasha, has been asked for duty in the Israeli army. Therefore we use today instead Ludwig Schneider‘s book “Keys to the Thora”, which leads the reader in 54 chapters through the annual cycle of the Thora readings. Ulrich Feldmann has adapted the following short excerpt. Marked quotations are from “Keys to the Thora”.

Commentary:
The weekly portion is with its seven chapters a double one and closes the reading of the book B‘midbar (or Numbers). In chapter 32 we see all Israel still east of the Jordan. The crossing over the Jordan and the taking of the land are soon going to take place, as the tribes of Reuben and Gad come with their demand to Moses, to grant them the land, in which they are presently, as their inheritance. They justify their request with their specialisation on breeding animals and that the Land east of the Jordan seemed to be especially suitable for.

Moses reacted with a fit of anger. He draws a parallel to the situation, as the ten spies warned from the giants and the fortified cities, and only Caleb and Joshua wanted to take the land. The result of this hesitation was the 40 years wandering through the desert – a judgment of God, for the entire generation that was freed from Egypt died in the desert. Should that perhaps be repeated, that parts of the people prefer a safe, comfortable life on green grass? Do the two tribes want to evade the fight? The representatives of the tribes conciliate, in promising, to leave only women, children and the animals behind in safe cities and with all men capable to fight to cross the Jordan, till the entire land is taken. read more…

Pinkhas – Phinehas: Numbers 25:10-30:1; 1 Kings 18:46-19:21

29th Week 2006:
SHABBAT PHINEHAS; READINGS & COMMENTARY
Pinkhas – Phinehas: Numbers 25:10-30:1; 1 Kings 18:46-19:21
By Michael Schneider

In our previous Torah portion we read how Israel was saved by God from the curses of the Moabite king Balak and his seer Balaam. Instead of cursing, Balaam “gave counsel to trespass against the LORD” (31:16).

Balaam became the Biblical prototype of a false teacher. In Jude and Revelation 2:14, he is mentioned as one ‘who kept teaching Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit acts of immorality’ and a prototype of money-greedy false teacher.

But in this week’s reading, “…the people began to play the harlot with the daughters of Moab. For they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods. Israel joined themselves to Baal of Peor” (25:1-3).

The seducing charm of a woman has always been a danger the Bible warns us about, especially from unbelievers who encourage worship of their idol gods. And it is a weakness of some men, for example the wise King Solomon and the mighty Samson. read more…

For me as Pastor the Sunday is anyway my main working day, for the glory of the resurrection of Jesus. Naturally I keep the Shabbat, for else I would have no day of rest.

Pastor Rolf Piller, House of Prayer and Outreach Ministries, Düsseldorf D-40221

Some years ago I came to realise that it is fairly strange that God is talking about eternal feasts and celebrations, but in church they were not reflected. I started to ask, to dig and then I found out that they were changed by man, thus God’s word was still true. As I saw that it was difficult to find support I concluded: “What stops me from simply keeping them?” So I started and find that my live did take a turn to the better, in relationship to Him.

Theme Marketing and Truth

Emperor Constantine had already in 325 AD successfully managed, “to correct” the truth subsequently. Since then Christianity does not keep the Shabbat any longer on that day, on which Jesus Christ Himself kept God’s Shabbat, but followed Constantine. You, dear Dr. Kleinfeld, may as CEO of Siemens, after Constantine’s success consider it perhaps the privilege of the mighty in this world, to rewrite truth subsequently. This is marketing wise not “clean” style. Constantine desire was it, to get Christianity “judenrein” , later also Martin Luther. Have you such horrendous of truth necessary?

Markenführung describs the truth, that the Holy Spirit was poured out at Shavuot, not at Pentecost, likewise as Jesus died also not at Easter but at Pessach for our guilt and rose! Today, on Shavuot, I wish your Marketing management the Spirit of God, who also called each of your customers to life. Who loves his life (his customers), remains with the “truth”, for she and “love” and “Glückwünsche” Wish Jerusalem happiness: they shall prosper that love thee. (Psa 122:6, translated from Luther) are the most refined marketing strategy, trust me!

Genesis 2,1-3

Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made. (Genesis 2,1-3)

Translation: New King James Version if not marked different.
