«The psalmist tells us to “Serve HaShem with joy.” (Psalms 100:2) It is truly a mitzva to always be happy, but our chiefest joy is to serve HaShem in the Holy Temple. The service in the Holy Temple was designed to amplify our joy as we basked in G-d’s Presence (Shechinah).
