But hw would we stand up to the tests that they faced, the binding of Yitzchak, which we read on Rosh HaShana, for example? In parashat Nitzavim we are told that we are “all standing this day before the Lord, your God,” and that it is “not only with you am I making this covenant and this oath, but with those standing here with us today before HaShem, our G-d, and also with those who are not here with us, this day.” Think again!
